In pursuit of its goals, the foundation has developed a wide range of accomplishments in its relatively brief history. Some of the programs it has funded include:

• Racecourse safety programs that send advisors to every NSA sanctioned meet on an annual basis and provide financial assistance for safety-oriented capital improvements. For example, grants have been awarded to race committees to aid in the upgrade of their irrigation systems and in the purchase of state of the art turf maintenance equipment;

• Drug testing procedures at all NSA race meets to insure fair competition and to promote the humane treatment of horses by detecting and preventing the use of prohibited substances;

• Promotional efforts that have popularized the sport of steeplechasing through printed material, racing coverage on ESPN, and the production of a highly acclaimed promotional video;

• Development and encouragement of new owners, trainers, and riders through programs that help to underwrite races restricted to amateur, foxhunter, and apprentice riders;

• Promotion of fairness and safety through such means as video replay systems for officials, photo finish cameras, imported safety jump components, and the distribution of SEI-certified helmets to all licensed riders.

Through these programs, and many others that are still on the drawing board, the foundation has become the bedrock on which the sport stands. It has already spent over one million dollars in support of its efforts and has been funded entirely by contributions from generous individuals who are dedicated to the preservation of a great legacy.
